South Central Neighborhood
South Central Neighborhood
covers a large area of south Wichita. Boundaries are Kellogg to Pawnee, and
Hydraulic to the Arkansas River. It is an area of mainly older homes with many
rental properties. It is a multi-cultural area with an increasing Hispanic
population. Many of the businesses are small and privately owned. In the last
few years, this neighborhood has worked hard to successfully improve its image
and rid South Broadway of most of its vices.
As it looks to the future,
the South Central neighborhood is proud of its new Kansas Firefighters Museum,
Lincoln Park water activity, large scale improvements to Immanuel Baptist
Church, a proposed new Linwood School, and improvements to the other
neighborhood schools. A new clean water education center is being built in
Herman Hill Park. A five-year plan for the area is being finalized to upgrade
the infrastructure and beautify the neighborhood.
