Immanuel Baptist Church is expanding facilities

Work is progressing on Immanuel Baptist's new auditorium. Most of the foundations are poured and soon the superstructure will be constructed. The proposed completion date is Easter 2003.

According to Rev. Faye Graves, senior associate pastor, the project will cost $5 million including about $2 million already spent for property and demolition of homes for parking and the building site. The building will contain 50,110 square feet of space.

A unique feature of the project will be a free-standing, 110-foot illuminated cross in front of the structure which will face Topeka Avenue.

The new facility will seat 3000 and be joined to the existing church facilities across Zimmerly Street which has been permanently closed between Broadway and Topeka Avenues.

The church is the largest Southern Baptist church in Kansas and Nebraska and has grown rapidly since Rev. Jerry Fox came in 1997.

New Walgreen Drug Store is coming

There will soon be a new Walgreen Drug Store at the northwest corner of Harry and Broadway. The Storer Sign Company, presently at 1558 S. Market, has built a new building just south of The Pawn Shop and will soon move to that facility. Their old location will become part of the new Walgreen location.

The new Walgreen will be a welcome addition to our community.
